The 84 mpg Elio
Elio Motors showed off its recently developed E1c prototype, meant to be a preproduction look at what will eventually come off the line in Shreveport, La. Elio also brought an example of the unibody frame (center) on which the car will be built. The three-wheeled vehicle is legally a motorcycle but the occupants needn’t wear helmets thanks to the unibody. A 3-L internal combustion engine is expected to produce 55 hp and provide 84 mpg highway driving and 49 mpg in cities. The car seats two people who sit in tandem. Base price is expected to be merely $7,300.
