Leadership in Engineering: 60 Years of Innovation
Bud Wisecarver and the Bishop-Wisecarver engineering team support companies around the world by leveraging state of the art technologies to improve performance and design optimization by incorporating their engineering expertise and patented technologies.
About Bud Wisecarver: An Engineering Difference
Bud has always had the knack for inventing, carrying two prominent themes throughout his life — motion and innovation. As a young boy, he spent a lot of his time building coasters, electric bicycles and cars. He even created parts when supplies were hard to come by. As a young man making his way through college while working in a truck body fabricator’s shop, Bud created and built truck accessories such as folding dollies and loading ramps. He then owned a small screw machine business where he produced wheel bushings for the Nike missile project and parts for a product that secured bread trays. He also designed and patented Saf-T-Sta cargo bars and a specialized bread tray known as Fol-Carrie which launched him into the manufacturing business.
Engineering Innovation: DualVee®
In the late 1960s, Bud was asked to design a fertilizer packaging machine for an oil company. He built the machine using flat rollers, but soon saw how filthy the packaging stations were, and how the flat rollers were constantly jamming up in the machinery. He knew there must be a better way. This led to the invention of DualVee, which Bud designed while watching a Raiders football game.
DualVee’s groundbreaking design provided a solution for harsh environments where other technologies were ineffective. DualVee, which also proved excellent for long length, smooth motion and low noise requirements, was awarded a patent in 1972.
The success of DualVee has led to the design and development of other Bishop-Wisecarver brand names including LoPro® linear actuators, MinVee® miniature slides, QuickTrak® clamp extrusion and UtiliTrak® linear guides, along with several new additions to the DualVee product line.
Today Bishop-Wisecarver’s team of engineers, led by Nigel Watson, continues to develop new products, including most recently QuickTrak clamp extrusions and DualVee washdown and cold temperature wheels. Washdown wheels feature a patented innovative outer shield and inner seal for exceptional protection from liquid and debris, and has proven to extend life in harsh and extreme environments by up to three times. QuickTrak provides a patent pending quick and easy method of installing DualVee track.
LoPro® is an innovative design that allows for chain, belt, lead or ball screw actuation and is perfectly suited for gantry system applications.
In addition to leading the way with innovative products and patents at regular intervals, Bishop-Wisecarver’s engineering team’s ability to design each individual system according to customer specifications allows the company to accommodate most anything from slight product modifications to complete custom-designed solutions.
And, after all these years, you can still find Bud in the plant working diligently on his next invention.
