Avtron absolute encoders for positioning applications are available as optical or magnetic, shafted or hollow shaft, single-turn or multi-turn designs. They retain their position even when powered off and keep track of motion within their own absolute frame of reference, unlike incremental encoders that need to be “homed” when power is eliminated. They include analog, SSI and Profibus, CANOpen, Devicenet and several common Ethernet platforms. Eliminating all gears, optics, and batteries makes them more reliable than existing models, while still fitting existing applications without mechanical or electrical modifications. They are suitable for light mill duty such as food and beverage machinery to severe duty applications such as wind turbines, steel mill equipment and oil and gas rigs.
