Smalley Wave Springs can be designed for use in the harshest of climates, on Earth, Mars or in space.

A Lockheed Martin technician works on wiring inside the
backshell that will be used to protect NASA’s Phoenix Mars Lander.
During the 9 -month cruise period and decent through the Martian
atmosphere, the aeroshell system – which includes the backshell –
protects the Phoenix spacecraft from the harsh environmental conditions
it encounters. More>>
In this application, a Smalley Crest-to-Crest® wave spring is being
used on a Mars lander. Not only do wave springs reduce spring height by
up to 50%, they allow for a smaller, lighter assembly.
