Goodbye, mechanical parking boot. Hello, electronic Barnacle Parking Enforcement. When parking enforcement officials find an illegally-parked vehicle, the electronic system provides a 3’ 4” x 2’opaque surface that prevents the driver from looking straight ahead. Designed to be as tamper-proof as possible, the Barnacle has an audible alarm and a GPS system to alert local law enforcement if the vehicle is being moved.
Barnacle has two 9.75-inch diameter suction cups with a built-in pump for each Barnacle. The pump removes air under the suction cup creating a vacuum that the company’s engineers estimate would take approximately 750 pounds of force per suction cup to remove it. Operation does not require measuring the vacuum level since the resistance to moving the pump handle becomes sufficient to stop pumping.
As a complete electronic parking control system, the Barnacle has an integral “Pay and Remove” system that allows the motorist to call and pay the fine over the phone with a credit card and then remove the Barnacle.
