Quality Transmission Components (QTC) was created in 1993 in response to a large demand for coarse pitch metric components. For over 100 years, the English system of units has been used by industry to specify gears, pulleys, screws and other industrial and automation components. The English system continues to be the leading system of units in the United States, despite the rest of the world’s adoption of the metric system. For this reason many of these components and the machinery produced in Europe or Asia are in metric units. As such, all of the dimensions of these components are metric and many purchasing managers and maintenance technicians had difficulty sourcing replacement parts or had to wait 12 weeks or more for delivery of components. QTC solves this problem by offering the largest selection of off-the-shelf power transmission components in North America. As part of this offering, QTC is the exclusive North American distributor of KHK (Kohara Gear) of Saitama, Japan. QTC is also the distributor of ZetaSassi belt and chain tensioners from Italy and Davall Gears from the United Kingdom. QTC offers a wide selection of off-the-shelf components that allows designers and engineers to source many of the components for a new system from a single vendor, thereby reducing time and cost and facilitating specification and purchasing.
Within their stock line of metric gears, QTC offers 4 unique gear products. These include a near zero backlash worm gear set, a near zero backlash tapered gear rack and pinion combination, a hubless spur gear with an integral clamp, and a flexible gear rack. The Duplex worm set features a variable pitch worm which when assembled with the worm wheel, can be adjusted axially to minimize the backlash of the assembly. The taper rack and pinion use a 4 degree taper to minimize backlash. As the pinion is moved axially 1 millimeter, the backlash is reduced to 0.05 millimeters. These minimal backlash components facilitate the specification of precision instrumentation and machinery, where every hundredth of a millimeter matters. The K-Clamp spur gear has a crescent shaped cut in the side face of the gear which creates a wedge. The wedge is compressed onto the shaft when a set screw is tightened. This component allows for easy installation and removal without damaging other components. The flexible rack is available in both acetal and steel and is designed for applications where a straight rack is desired but not practical. In addition, QTC offers many plastic gears, pulleys, and sprockets that are lightweight but yet are strong enough to meet the requirements for many applications.
QTC hosts two websites to support the over 26,000 stock items that they offer. On the websites www.econobelt.com and www.qtcgears.com, QTC offers product specifications, 3D CAD models, pricing, live inventory and an e-store to facilitate purchasing for all of their components at any time of the day and any day of the week. Many of its products are packed and shipped the same day from their New Hyde Park, NY warehouse.
