Motion control and positioning system engineering leader

Aerotech has been at the forefront of motion control technology since its inception over 35 years ago. The company was founded by engineers and has stayed true to its heritage by continuously innovating new motion control technologies to create the most accurate, highest performance, highest throughput, and maintenance-free motion control components and systems available. Our expertise includes precision mechanics, motion controllers and drives, and integrated electromechanical systems.

Aerotech’s long history of using both air-bearing and mechanical-bearing technology is an area where engineering proficiency leads to ideal solutions for our customers. The company is expert at designing, manufacturing, and implementing both air-bearing and mechanical-bearing stages, and determining which is the optimum technology for a given application. Solutions can even take the form of multi-axis systems capable of both rotary and linear motion, incorporating Aerotech’s own air-bearing and mechanical-bearing stages, controls, and drives, with fully self-contained electronics, and options for both vacuum and cleanroom environments.

Another example of Aerotech’s leadership in engineering is the use of brushless linear and rotary servomotors. Aerotech has manufactured linear motors for many years and has a tremendous amount of experience applying these in both component-level solutions as well as in our own stages. Likewise, Aerotech used its engineer-driven company model to design and build its own brushless rotary motors, employing these motors in its screw-driven and rotary stages to increase their performance, accuracy, and reliability. We further improved our brushless motor technology by creating a line of brushless, slotless rotary motors that provide the smoothest rotary motion available. This led directly to the development of Aerotech’s slotless, brushless torque motors, which are becoming the gold standard for direct-drive rotary stages and other OEM rotary motion applications.

The imagination and experience of Aerotech’s engineers continues to lead to significant breakthroughs in the area of motion controllers. The development of the Automation 3200 software-based, 1- to 32-axis motion, vision, PLC, robotics, and I/O platform is the culmination of years of experience in designing and building motion controllers for our own mechanics as well as for integration into other motion systems. Aerotech has gone on to develop the SoloistTM single-axis servo controller and the EnsembleTM multi-axis, stand-alone controller, both of which incorporate the latest advances in controller technology.

Aerotech’s long history of engineering excellence has reaped throughput, quality, innovation, and cost rewards for many industries, and continues to this day. Aerotech’s willingness to embrace new and innovative technologies and its complete mastery of the entire motion control equation, from mechanics to drives to controls, has created an expert organization that can manufacture and implement virtually any motion control solution. In applications as diverse as semiconductor, automotive, medical, photonics and fiberoptics, electronics, imaging, laser machining, test and measurement, and general positioning applications, Aerotech continues to lead with high quality, superior technology, unbeatable accuracy, lowest cost of ownership, and an engineering tradition that is second to none.
