Bird’s unique manufacturing process
Bird Precision offers a unique series of laser drilled, wire lapped Ruby and Sapphire Orifices. This unique wire lapping method insures that our orifices are round and highly polished. This method also removes the possibilities of burrs or loose particles in the orifices area. The orifices are lapped both faces to impart a very sharp edge to the orifices. This sharp edge gives our orifices a very controlled coefficient of discharge, (cd Value.) The wire lapping also guarantee’s diameter tolerances to .0001” or less, as found in our new Golden Orifice Series. It is this precise methodology that distinguishes us from all other orifice manufacturing methods, yielding production quantities of highly repeatable flows for both liquids and gas at reasonable prices.
Orifices and filters are packaged in a huge variety of stainless, brass and plastic fittings, connectors and inserts. With extreme chemical and wear resistance these products insure precise dependable control of even the most harsh liquids and gas.

Bird Precision celebrates 95 years of precision New England craftsmanship. Our roots began by supplying Ruby Ring Jewels and watch bearings for the Waltham Watch Factory in the early 1900’s.
Our product later became integral to the Aerospace Industry. Precision bearings were used for satellite and lunar landing guidance systems.
With the development of new laser drilling and wire lapping techniques, we have transitioned into micro miniature orifices, nozzles, filters and connectors. We offer a whole line of micron level standard product, ranging in size from 10 microns (.0004”) up to 2mm. Flow rates range from under 1cc/m.
Our orifice products are found in oxygen control devices for the medical industries. Repeatable flow controls for pneumatic regulators, hydraulic valves and analytical instrumentation.
