With sensor prices decreasing, wearable electronics and Internet of Things (IoT) applications for sensors are increasing. IC Insights’ new 2015 O-S-D Report is 360-pages long and covers optoelectronics, sensors and discrete semiconductors as well as MEMS-based actuators.
The report forecasts that unit volume growth of sensors will increase by a strong CAGR of 11.4% in the 2014-2019 timeframe and reach 19.1 billion sensor shipments worldwide in five years. In this same timeframe, revenue growth is projected to rise by an annual rate of 6.0%.
Acceleration/yaw sensors (accelerometers and gyroscope devices)continue to be the largest sensor category, in terms of dollar sales volume, and constitute 26% of the total sensor/actuator market. Pressure sensor sales were also strong in 2014, growing 15% to a new record-high $1.5 billion after climbing 16% in 2013.
