All driver vision enhancement systems are not the same. This is especially true for defense vehicle applications that can employ daylight sensors (typically charge-coupled devices (CCDs)), lowlight sensors (image intensifier tubes) or thermal imaging sensors (Mid-Wave Infrared (MWIR) and Long-Wave Infrared (LWIR)). The fused Driver Vision Enhancement (fDVE) solution from RFEL Ltd, a UK-based electronic systems designer addresses the various needs of different applications. Based on a standardized mechanical and electric interface, the fVDE system allows the use of different kinds of cameras / sensor types in a mix and match approach. An additional single rear view sensor enhances the design. Based on mission requirements, different kinds of sensors can be employed such as combinations of Electron Multiplying CCD (EMCCD) night vision in conjunction with LWIR thermal imaging, or CCD-based day vision in combination with short-wave IR (SWIR) for reconnaissance situations. Launching at Eurosatory in Paris, June 16-20, 2014, for more information about the fDVE, click here.
