Non-contact optical rotary encoders can address motion control applications in dynamic stages and machines in the general automation or semiconductor industries, such as a pick and place machines. These sensors are also used on air bearing spindles, blood pumps, and servo motors in robotic applications. By offering its ERO 1200/1400 series of modular optical rotary encoders without an integral bearing, HEIDENHAIN plans on satisfying the requirements of many of these applications. The ERO 1400 can achieve resolutions of 37,500 signal periods per revolution and allow axial motion up to ±0.02mm.
