Permabit delivers increased efficiency and RHEL 7 support in new VDO release

Permabit Technology ushered in the next generation of storage efficiency with the release of Albireo Virtual Data Optimizer (VDO) 5.2.

Albireo VDO combines fine-grained thin provisioning, inline data deduplication and the company’s HIOPS Compression for Linux-based storage solutions, while delivering an average 6:1 data reduction across mixed storage environments. Offered as an OEM component, VDO is easily embedded into solutions from storage manufacturers and service providers.

VDO 5.2 provides support for open source industry leader Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
(RHEL 7) and adds further enhancements to the product’s already industry-leadPermabiting performance and resource efficiency metrics. “It works seamlessly with all of the capabilities of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, enabling our customers to deliver cutting edge data reduction, while leveraging world class OEM support from Red Hat,” said Louis Imershein, vice president of product.

“Solutions using Red Hat Atomic Host, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, Red Hat Gluster Storage, and Red Hat Ceph Storage can all take full advantage of VDO data reduction capabilities. With the 5.2 release, we’ve not only added support for RHEL 7, but also dramatically increased performance and memory efficiency for business-critical storage systems, enabling up to 4 PBs of logical storage,” concluded Imershein.

With VDO, OEMs and service providers can seamlessly leverage all the capabilities of their Linux-based storage solutions and continue to use existing Linux applications, file systems, virtualization features and data protection capabilities. Albireo VDO uniquely combines scalability and performance with the industry’s highest data reduction, enabling all customers to maximize the efficiency of their storage offerings.
