(Temecula, CA) — Opto 22 has introduced the SNAP-AIMA-8, SNAP-AIV-8, and SNAP-AICTD-8, the company’s newest analog current, voltage, and temperature input modules. Designed for use with Opto 22’s SNAP PAC System™, these new higher-density modules connect to analog sensors, devices, and equipment in industrial applications involving process control, monitoring, and data acquisition of temperature, pressure, flow, level, and other analog sources.
Because field wiring terminates at the top of the module, these new analog input modules offer high density without the extra costs and panel space incurred by additional I/O racks or external breakout boards.
These new 8-channel analog input modules extend Opto 22’s current line of 2-, 4-, 8-, 16-, and 32-channel SNAP Analog I/O. They are designed to provide reliable, lifetime-guaranteed analog input sensing and signal conditioning for industrial automation, remote monitoring, and data acquisition applications. End-users, OEMs, and systems integrators now have a broader selection of choices when purchasing and deploying I/O for their applications.
The SNAP-AIMA-8 provides eight channels of -20 mA to +20 mA analog current input. The module can be scaled for use anywhere within this operating range. It offers factory calibration with 0.8 µA resolution and up to 0.05% (10 µA) accuracy across span.
The SNAP-AIV-8 provides eight channels of analog voltage input. Each channel can be configured for -5 to +5 VDC or -10 to +10 VDC operation or scaled for use anywhere within these operating ranges. The module offers 0.2 mV resolution when configured for -5 volts to +5 volts and 0.4 mV when configured for -10 volts to +10 volts. Accuracy is 0.05% (5 mV at 10 VDC; 2.5 mV at 5 VDC) across span.
The SNAP-AICTD-8, designed in direct response to Opto 22 customer needs in the energy management markets, provides eight channels of analog temperature input from standard integrated circuit temperature devices (ICTDs). It offers 0.017 °C resolution with ± 0.8 °C accuracy and 1.0 mA/ °C sensitivity.
All three modules are transformer isolated and, like all SNAP analog modules, are optically isolated from the equipment and devices they connect to, as well as from other modules that may reside on a shared I/O rack. Wiring to field devices is accomplished via 8-pin connections on two pluggable terminal strips on the top of the module. These modules are CE approved and offer a lifetime guarantee.
A single I/O subsystem outfitted with these new modules offers up to 128 analog input channels, making them ideal for small or large sized applications. These applications include thermoforming, water treatment, refrigeration, curing, refining, and PID loop control. Other industrial settings where these modules can be effectively deployed with significant cost and space savings are OEM applications, such as the development of autoclaves, HVAC systems, molding machines, and test stands.
All of the new modules can be used with any SNAP PAC brain or controller (including the newly released SNAP-PAC-S2 programmable automation controller and SNAP-PAC-SB1 and -SB2 brains.) The modules are configured and compatible with PAC Control™ 8.1, part of the recently released PAC Project™ 8.1, the newest version of the company’s flagship automation software suite used to design, develop, and maintain industrial control, monitoring, and data acquisition applications.
