Cincinnati, OH – The Industrial Automation Group of Advantech introduces the EKI-2528PAI, a ruggedized 8-port unmanaged Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) Ethernet switch featuring a total of eight (8) 10/100Base-TX Ethernet ports, four (4) of which can supply power to PoE compliant devices.

PoE is relatively new to industrial and plant-floor applications. It allows the transmission of both power and data to Ethernet devices over standard twisted-pair Cat5/5e/6 cables. More formally known as IEEE 802.3af, this standard specifies a supply of 48VDC at up to 15.4W per port.

Common industrial applications for PoE including connecting and powering outdoor wireless access points, smart cameras for machine vision, network cameras for video surveillance, radio frequency ID (RFID) readers, and many other types intelligent devices.

Unlike most industrial PoE switches, the EKI-2528PAI does not require a separate 48 VDC power source. Equipped with an internal DC-to-DC converter, 24 VDC input power is boosted to the 48 VDC required for powering PoE compliant devices.

Packaged in a compact and thin DIN-rail mount metal chassis, the EKI-2528PAI is ideal where panel space is limited. It is also ruggedized for demanding industrial applications, with redundant power inputs, 4,000 VDC Ethernet ESD protection, power line surge (EFT) protection of 3,000 VDC, and features a wide -40 to 75° C operating temperature range to ensure system uptime. Plus, these switches are CUL (UL/CSA), UL508, CE, FCC, and RoHS/WEE certified.
