Allegro MicroSystems, Inc (www.allegromicro.com) has introduced its latest integrated power IC A3998, a dual DMOS full-bridge motor driver and dual regulator specifically developed to provide the power supply and motor driver requirements for office automation such as scanners and printers and industrial applications.
The power IC integrates two high performance, high current full bridge outputs capable of 1.5 A at 50 V. It is also provided with two power supply rails for microprocessor or DSP supplies.
Aside from these, it also features a switching buck regulator that steps the supply to an adjustable low voltage output from 3.3 V to 5 V. The voltage can be utilized to supply external rails with 3.3 V or 5 V. It also feeds back into the part while supplying the integrated linear actuator, which can be adjusted from 1 V to 2.5 V.
In addition, the serial port offers the dual full-bridge motor driver with flexible configuration. Equipped with fixed off-time PWM current control and programmable decal mode selection, the programmable two full-bridges are capable of controlling two DC motors or one stepper motor.
The non-linear four bit DAC can also be programmed to deliver up to 16 current levels for 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, half and full microstep per step resolution in stepper motor configurations.
Its internal circuit protections include under voltage lockout (UVLO), thermal shutdown with hysteresis, crossover-current and over current protection.
Packed in lead free 100 percent matte-tin lead frame plating, the A3998 is supplied in a low profile, 32-contact QFN, five × five mm, 0.90 mm nominal height.
