Ametek unveils MCG MA34000 series brushless DC motors

By Motion Control Tips Editor | July 27, 2012

AMETEK Technical & Industrial Products (www.ametektip.com), a unit of AMETEK, Inc. (www.ametek.com), has introduced its latest series of brushless DC motors that promote simplified installation as well as optimized operation, the MCG MA34000 Series brushless DC motors.

Equipped with an integral drive, the all-new motors help deliver quiet, smooth and efficient operation across a wide speed range. Aside from simplifying installation, the NEMA 34 motors also eliminate the need for external motor cabling, effectively reducing the required space for the package and minimizing the potential for cable-related electrical noise.

In addition, the motors also have the ability to power equipment in a wider range of applications, such as in the semiconductor processing, medical/biotech, automation and packaging industries. They are ideally suited for use in non-traditional servo applications that require one direction and where speed (velocity) control is not vital.

The series features an integral single quadrant drive for three-phase electronic commutation that allows for an overall compact design while its internally pre-wired feedback and drive connections contribute to reduce audible noise and lower EMI. With internal Hall sensors offering closed loop velocity control, the motors’ integral electronics can also be customized in order to conform to certain operating parameters.

Meanwhile, the brushless technology of the motor allows it to achieve longer service life without the wear and maintenance issues commonly associated with brush-commutated products.

Standard motors are available in three lengths with rated power starting from 168 watts (0.22 Hp) at speeds of up to 1750 RPM and rated power from 746 watts (1.0 Hp) at speeds of up to 3450 RPM.
