Aries Drive with Resolver Feedback

By Design World Staff | October 23, 2006

Rohnert Park, CA, September 6, 2006 – Parker Automation announces the
release of a resolver feedback option in its successful Aries family of
low-cost, all-digital servo drives. The addition of resolver feedback
increases the versatility of the Aries drive platform. Now users can choose
the versatile Aries drive for use with resolver feedback in addition to
smart encoders, quadrature encoders and Heidenhain EnDat absolute encoders.

The new resolver option adds the capability of solving applications
requiring the advantages that rugged resolver technology can offer. A
resolver feedback device is essentially made out of the same materials as
the motor and contains no electronics; thus, a resolver- equipped motor is
less susceptible to the effects of temperature, humidity, dust, vibration
and shock.

In addition, the Aries family now features a total of seven distinct power
levels ranging from 100W up to 3000W of continuous motor shaft power. That
equates to 16A RMS continuous and 48A RMS peak current to quickly
accelerate even the largest loads.

Every Aries drive contains the same standard features and benefits,
including Smart Encoder feedback to automatically set up the drive, support
for Endat multi-turn absolute encoders to dispense with limit switches and
homing routines, and an innovative DriveTalk feature to communicate with
the Aries drive without a serial connection.

All Aries drives ship with the feature-packed Aries Support Tool (AST)
software package.

The AST program provides easy and intuitive diagnostic screens, graphical
tuning utilities, an OS download tool and a configuration wizard for use
with non-Smart Encoder motors. The AST package is provided free of charge
and may be downloaded from the Parker Electromechanical Automation Web
site, www.parkermotion.com. The latest release of AST is version 3.0, which
offers such enhancements as the new System SnapShot feature to simplify and
speed drive diagnostics; improvements to the graphical current, velocity,
and notch filter tuning utilities; and improved and expanded status panel
information.
