Bison celebrates Earth day

bisonEarth Day is Friday, April 22nd, and Bison Gear and Engineering is joining with its community to emphasize the importance of conservation, recycling and taking care of Mother Earth for future generations. Headquartered in St. Charles, IL, Bison would like to take the time to highlight the local programs that keep our environment clean right in our backyard.

Kane County Recycles

The Kane County Recycles office manages recycling programs for electronics, books, hazardous materials and other hard-to-recycle materials. Their next upcoming recycling event is May 13th and is targeted towards electronics and books.

Rain Barrels – a simple and effective way to promote water conservation
Rain barrels collect and store rain water by attaching to the downspout on a dwelling or building. Collected rain water can be used as an alternative water source for gardening and landscaping. Rain barrels can be purchased at the Kane-Dupage Soil and Water Conservation District, online at www.conservemc.org, or by checking out the rain barrel and composter sale in Algonquin, IL (orders for Algonquin sale must be picked up on or before May 13th).

Composters make your garden thrive
Composting bins help reduce the amount of garbage that finds its way to a landfill. Fruit, vegetable and yard waste can all be collected in a composter bin that yields very effective soil for gardening. The bin itself is made from recycled material and has a 25 year manufacturing warranty. Soil Saver Bins are offered at a discounted rate ($60) to Kane County residents. Bins are available at the University of Illinois Extension office, 535 S. Randall Road in St. Charles, IL.

Green manufacturing at Bison
For its part, Bison continually strives to reduce waste and promote green practices in manufacturing. Bison participates in recycling programs that include reimbursed disposal of scrap materials: cardboard, machining chips, scrap steel, electric motors and copper wire. In addition, Bison recycles aluminum cans, paper, ink cartridges, plastic bottles and stretch wrap plastic. Finally, Bison ensures the safe, environmentally sound disposal of the following materials: oil, machine coolants, varnish, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs and general garbage. Recycling bins are located throughout Bison and are separated according to class. Every little bit helps, and Bison looks to lead and ‘walk the talk’ when it comes to recycling and conservation.
