WTWH Media, LLC announced that Boston Dynamics founder and CEO Marc Raibert will deliver the closing keynote at the 2018 Robotics Summit & Showcase.
Taking place at the Westin Boston Waterfront in Boston on May 23-24, 2018, the Robotics Summit is an international educational forum dedicated to addressing the technical issues involved with the design, development, manufacture and delivery of commercial class robotics and intelligent systems products and services.
Waltham, Mass.-based Boston Dynamics was founded by Raibert in 1992 as a spin-off out of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where it developed the first robots that ran and maneuvered like animals. The company is now known for developing the world’s most advanced dynamic robots, including Atlas, BigDog, Handle, SpotMini and others. These robots are inspired by the remarkable ability of animals to move with agility, dexterity, perception, and intelligence. A key ingredient of these robots is their dynamic behavior, which contributes to their effectiveness and versatility in the real world.
Raibert’s keynote, “Building Dynamic Robots,” will give you an update on the company that makes those viral YouTube videos and go under the hood of its biped and quadruped robots that jump, run, balance and even do backflips. Raibert will give a status report on the robots, including SpotMini, the company’s latest four-legged robot that handles objects, climbs stairs, and opens doors.
Before starting Boston Dynamics, Raibert was Professor of Computer Science and Robotics at MIT and Carnegie Mellon. While at CMU and MIT Raibert founded the Leg Laboratory, a lab that helped establish the scientific basis for highly dynamic robots and that set the stage for the work done at Boston Dynamics. Raibert is a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
