Molex Incorporated’s (www.molex.com) Brad HarshIO PROFINET I/O Module has received conformance class B certification from PROFIBUS Nutzerorganisation (PNO). Designed with Fast Start-Up (FSU), the modules deliver reliable solutions for connecting industrial controllers into I/O devices and are suitable for use in various applications, including automation systems with a deterministic data cycle and higher-level machine control.
“Conformance Class B certification of Brad HarshIO PROFINET I/O modules validates conformity to the PROFINET standard and trouble-free interoperability with other certified devices,” said Eric Gory, Global Product Manager at Molex.
“Coupled with FSU technology, HarshIO Modules bring exceptional speed to the market for optimal flexibility in all industries using robots for repetitive tasks with precision, as well as in harsh environments.”
A performance-adapted Media Redundancy Protocol (MRP) optimized the Brad HarshIO module’s data reliability while a Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) support extends its diagnostics of network functions.
Using PROFINET to control actuators/sensors on the robot tooling, like on an automotive welding robot, often requires quick change of tools. This is not a problem with Brad HarshIO Modules since its FSU technology for PROFINET allows it to operate and start in less than 500 ms.
Additionally, the user-friendly module eliminates the need for an engineering tool during replacement and support safety automation architectures with separate power supplies to power the sensors (inputs) and the actuators (outputs). Its power connectors include independent grounding isolation between the input/logic ground as well as the output ground, enabling the module to be powered by two distinct power supplies usually used in safety applications.
