BSA, PTDA add three categories to PIE platform

By Puja Mitra | November 1, 2025

The Bearing Specialists Association (BSA) and the Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA) have added three new product categories—open gearing, enclosed gearing, and adjustable/variable speed drives—to the PIE Technology Platform (PIE). With these additions, PIE now includes 35 bearing and power transmission/motion control (PT/MC) product categories, strengthening its position as a central resource for managing and exchanging product data across the industry.

Developed by subject matter experts from BSA and PTDA, the PIE Template provides a standardized format for industrial bearings and PT/MC products. It allows manufacturers to manage their product data and determine which authorized distributors can access specific product categories. This structure supports secure, accurate and consistent sharing of product information among channel partners, creating a single, standardized platform that helps manufacturers and distributors collaborate more efficiently and improve the end-user experience.

How it works

Through PIE, manufacturers and distributors have access to a cloud-based catalog that supports the exchange of detailed product data. PIE-registered manufacturers manage their own product information in the system and use the self-service platform to upload content, while distributors download authorized data as needed. Distributors can map PIE-compliant content to their product information management (PIM) systems, websites, and digital tools, reducing manual updates and improving data consistency. A delta export feature lets distributors receive only updated product data, helping streamline maintenance and minimize time spent correcting outdated information.
