Several product lead times have increased dramatically due to many factors, including recent supply-chain challenges. Buckeye Fasteners Company — a supplier of fasteners and custom components — is working on improvements to improve overall customer satisfaction.
These improvements and changes are specifically intended to increase throughput and decrease lead times. Additionally, all aspects of the company’s value stream are being monitored for enhancements.
A few of the improvements include:
- Process layout improvements in Buckeye’s bolt-maker department, allowing operators to monitor multiple machines and assist one another throughout production.
- The implementation of overtime in all departments (including in the nut and bolt-maker, and top-locking departments).
- Careful research of potential new vendors for raw material to alleviate raw material shortages and quality issues.
Buckeye is also working on future improvements. The company plans to purchase a new 5-station, cold-forming bolt maker. The technology of this machine would decrease setup time, improve quality, increase production capacity, and increase production capability.
It’s also planning to add new nut tappers to improve the quality and increase weld-nut production capacity.
