Card connector supports MicroSD and Nano SIM operation in one socket

Hirose has developed a card connector that supports both MicroSD and Nano SIM operation in one socket. The top slot of the user-friendly KP15B Series connector is used for a MicroSD card, while the bottom slot is for a Nano SIM card.

Hirose KP15B Series card connector for MicroSD and NanoSIMThe connector has a card detecting feature and a reverse card insertion prevention mechanism to ensure proper mating. The top slot is designed to extract the Micro SD card without removing the battery pack. An ejector bar enables extraction of Nano SIM card without the withdrawal of upper MicroSD card.

A dual-contact design prevents contact buckling by allowing the longer contact to reach the tray first, and then the shorter contact smoothly moves along with it. An exposed terminal design simplifies examination of the connector contacts via automated optical inspection.

The small card connector is only 17.9 mm long, 11.9 mm wide and 2.0 mm high. The Micro SD card has a mating cycle rating of 10,000, while the Nano SIM card offers 5,000 mating cycles.

“Deigned to save precious printed board space when mounted, the KP15B Series dual MicroSD card and Nano SIM card connector simplifies designs and offers enhanced functionality compared to competing products on the market,” said Bill Kysiak, Product Marketing Manager for Hirose Electric USA.

The KP15B Series is commonly used in digital cameras, digital video cameras, laptops, printers, smart phones, televisions and more.

The KP15B Series has an operating temperature range of -30° to 85° C, a rated current of 0.5 A and a rated voltage of 10 V.
