Single piece couplings require that lateral access to the clamping hubs be available so that the hubs can be tightened onto the two shafts through access holes the motor mounting bracket. While this is acceptable in the majority of cases, some require an axial press fit coupling so that the two coupling halves can be mounted to the shafts in advance of the motor being installed; with the shafts being joined as the coupling components come into contact. The press fit metal bellows coupling utilizes a precision tapered interface so that when the two coupling halves are compressed by approximately 1mm the fit is backlash free and torsionally rigid, as is required in most servo coupling applications.
The unique BK6 series takes this concept another step forward by allowing for either coupling segment to also be tightened axially. In cases where the driven shaft is buried inside of a cavity the coupling components of the BK6 can be slid into the cavity and tightened on the face, allowing for 100% axial installation. The tapered bushings within the clamping system allow for a very high holding torque over the shaft.
BK6 couplings are available in 8 sizes with torque ratings from 15 — 1500 Nm (132 — 13,275 in-lbs) and can accommodate English or metric shafts from 10 — 72 mm (0.394 — 2.83 in.).
