Last year, we launched the LEAP Awards, a competition to honor the best engineered components across the mechanical and electrical engineering spaces. Not sure what to expect with a first year’s awards program, we kept things rather simple … and were pleasantly surprised when we received well over 100 entries, making it perhaps one of the best awards launches in the engineering community’s history.
The 2019 edition of LEAP is well underway, and you can expect to read about the judging panel, as well as the category finalists and the winners in the coming months. But we’re also expanding the program a bit. In addition to a new category for software, we’ll be awarding more honors.
Instead of naming one winner and several honorable mentions in each of our 14 categories, this year, we’ll have three winners. These winners will be awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze titles for first, second and third place, respectively. There will still be several honorable mentions awarded in each category, based on the judging scores/feedback, as well as the category size.
I’m happy that we’ll be spotlighting more of the excellent engineering design work that’s being done across the world, because that’s really what’s at the heart of this publication. Every day, our editorial team is working hard to find and curate the best engineering information for our readers — whether that’s through feature articles, product roundups, technical reports, or application stories that illustrate the design possibilities.
LEAP gives us a new and exciting way to cut through the clutter of news releases to let you know what technologies and products are truly innovative and worth your attention. I look forward to bringing you complete information about all of the winners in the coming months, both in the print version Design World, as well as on this website.
