Charter teams with Recruit Military to hire more veterans

Charter Communications has broadened its outreach to the nation’s military veterans through a new partnership with Recruit Military.

Recruit Military is a full-service military-to-civilian recruiting firm for all branches and ranks of the armed forces. Its services are provided for free to veterans.

The partnership gives Charter access to Recruit Military’s resume-database search engine in order to help it find qualified job candidates. The database contains nearly 600,000 veterans who are looking for jobs.

Charter’s veteran recruitment strategy also features an advertising angle that includes placing a full-page ad in “G.I. Jobs,” which is a digital and print publication distributed to military bases nationwide. Charter also said it would use social media to promote its recruitment efforts.

“This is a wonderful means for Charter to connect with veterans and develop our workforce,” said Sarah Hankins, Charter’s director of recruiting, “and we expect it to help us find and hire a significant number of new employees.”

As a recent example, Charter said it was currently recruiting for more than 50 positions in a variety of fields, such as technical support, engineering, field auditors, broadband installers, customer service, sales and operations, in Wisconsin. Charter worked with the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs to spread the word about the career opportunities.

“Military veterans possess valuable, proven skills, developed through some of the best training available and most trying conditions imaginable,” said Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary John A. Scocos. “One of our main goals is to assist those former service members in finding quality employment, and we appreciate the opportunity to partner with those, like Charter, who push to hire our military veterans.”

The cable operator industry has been proactive on the job finding front for veterans. Comcast has a program that is similier to Charter’s while the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers officially announced the formation of its SCTE Veterans Network (Vet-Net) program two years ago.
