Civia Cycles Recalls Bicycles & Aluminum Fenders

By The Associated Press | April 17, 2015

Share

Civia Cycles is recalling about 1,000 Hyland bicycles and aluminum Civia fenders due to a potential crash hazard.

The company said that the fender mounting bracket can break or bend, potentially causing the rider to fall. It has received one report from a customer who said they suffered a cervical spine injury and nerve damage after a bracket broke.

The recall includes all Civia aluminum fenders sold separately as aftermarket sets and all Civia Hyland bicycles sold with the fenders as original equipment. The recalled fenders are round, size 700c x 35mm and have the Civia logo on the front and rear sides of each fender. Fender sets came in black, blue, green, olive, red and silver.

The Hyland bicycles came in blue, green, olive and red. They have “Hyland” on the top tube, “Civia” on the down tube and the Civia logo on the seat tube.

The products were sold from April 2008 through March 2013 at independent bicycle retailers nationwide and online. A Civia fender set cost about $60 and the Civia Hyland bicycles cost between $1,200 and $4,500.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop riding bicycles with the recalled fenders and contact an authorized Civia Cycles dealer to receive a $60 credit. Civia can be reached toll-free at (877) 311-7686 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday. Consumers may also visit www.civiacycles.com and click on Hyland Fender Recall for more information.
