Classroom robots provide flexibility

DENSO Corp. has announced new ISO 3 (class 1) cleanroom versions of its VS-Series six-axis articulated robots, adding to its previously released ISO 5 (class 100) versions. The VS-Series robots offer the world’s highest speed and precision in their class, with cycle times from 0.37 to 0.33 sec and repeatability from ±0.03 to ±0.02 mm. Reaches are from 500 to 900 mm and payload capacities from 4 to 7 kg.

The VS robots are extremely flexible, with a more compact design than previous models, including ultraslim arms to facilitate integration and a new optional bottom-side cable connection that saves valuable floor space. The robots can be mounted on the floor, ceiling or wall with no special hardware needed.

A new internal wiring option allows connection of Gigabit Ethernet devices and servo grippers directly to the robot flange, preventing cables from becoming tangled or interfering with peripheral equipment. ANSI and CE safety compliance allows global deployment.

Typical cleanroom applications include assembly, dispensing, encapsulating and potting, insertion, inspection, laser welding, machine tending, material handling, nut driving, packaging, pick and place, press fitting, screw driving, soldering, test handling and ultrasonic welding.

Suitable industries include aerospace, alternative energy, appliances, automotive, biomedical, chemicals, consumer products, disk drives, electronics, general manufacturing, injection molding, life sciences, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, plastics and semiconductors.

“Our VS-Series robots continue to set the performance standard for their class,” said Peter Cavallo, robotics sales manager, DENSO Sales California. “Now the new ISO 3 cleanroom models open up an even wider range of applications.”
