Clippard’s new stepper-controlled proportional valve for critical applications

By Stacy Combest | August 15, 2012

Clippard Instrument Laboratories’s high-flow stepper-controlled proportional valve uses the most robust linear actuator with acme lead screw, making it a clear standout in terms of performance and durability.

The proportional valve is ideal for critical applications such as analytical, medical and industrial automation as well as gas delivery. It also has potential application for anesthesia equipment, process flow control and cuff/bladder pressure control as well as for variable speed control, precision flow control and automation of needle valve.

The valve features an anodized aluminum square body that measures 1 1/8” and 1/8” NPT inlet and outlet ports. It is made up of brass housing and internals. A customizable stainless steel needle inside the valve has 3.0° taper standard.

Furthermore, the valve’s unique design allows custom flow profiles whenever necessary.

The Viton bonded elastomeric seat which has exceptional sealing provides smooth opening and fine control enabling the valve to perform millions of cycles. Also, the valve holds its position for saving or loss of power.

Other features of the valve include two percent hysteresis, an excellent linearity of up to two percent, and a reaction time of two milliseconds.

Only compatible liquids and gases must be used in order that the valve may function efficiently.

The two-way stepper-controlled proportional valve also requires a bipolar chopper drive to enable the stepping motor to achieve high stepping rates.
