Couplings utilizing a stainless steel bellows exhibit very high torsional rigidity with zero backlash and flexibility across all three axes of possible shaft misalignment. The most important feature of this design is that very high position repeatability may be maintained even under torsional loading, while placing only a very light restoring load on shaft bearings under misalignment. While this, and a very low moment of inertia make bellows couplings ideal for most precision servo applications, making sure the appropriately sized coupling will fit mechanically can sometimes be a challenge. For this reason R+W has developed the new compact bellows couplings model BKC.
In this coupling the connection between the stainless steel bellows and aluminum clamping hub is hidden within the fit-length of the hub itself, allowing for the same axial shaft engagement as standard bellows couplings but with an overall length approximately 15% shorter than in the past.
The shaft hubs are custom bored on each side for shaft sizes from 8 to 75 mm (5/16 inch to 2.95 inch) with or without keyways. Sizes are available for torque capacities ranging from 15 to 500Nm (1133 to 4,425 in. lbs.).
