Here come Chinese cars
There was a single Chinese car maker at NAIAS. Guangzhou Automotive Corp. (GAC) doesn’t sell cars in the U.S. and won’t for at least two more years. It showed three new cars including the EnSpirit concept. The EnSpirit is a plug-in hybrid that updates another GAC concept car first shown in 2015. Other vehicles in the GAC booth, which sell in China, included a five-seat SUV called the GS7 which carries a 200-hp turbo engine and six-speed automatic, the GE3 electric vehicle powered by a 163-hp induction motor. The GE3 is said to have a 310-km range.
