Corindus Vascular Robotics (OTC:CVRS) today touted the first commercial installation of its CorPath GRx robotic surgical system outside of the US.
The CorPath GRX platform, a robot-assisted system for percutaneous coronary interventions such as stenting, was purchased and installed at the Ahmedabad, India’s Apex Heart Institute, the Waltham, Mass.-based company said.
Corindus said that it will partner with the Apex Heart Institute to develop a global center of excellence to train interventional cardiologists on using the platform in robotic-assisted percutaneous coronary interventions.
“We are pleased that Apex Heart Institute has launched the first robotic program in India, successfully performing eleven PCI procedures during its first three days of use. India represents a new and developing market area for Corindus, and we are looking forward to working with Dr. Patel and the Apex Heart Institute as we introduce our precision vascular robotics to this area,” prez & CEO Mark Toland said in a press release.
The company touted that the first robotic-assisted percutaneous coronary intervention procedure has been performed with the newly installed system. The procedure was performed through left dorsal transradial access by Apex Heart Institute chair & chief interventional cardiologist Dr. Tejas Patel, Corindus said..

Robotics is an important component of the future of interventional cardiology at Apex Heart Institute. We look forward to pioneering this technology in India and around the world,” Dr. Patel said in a prepared statement.
In October, Corindus revealed plans to use HeartFlow’s FFRct Analysis tech designed to create 3D images of arteries for evaluating patients in a case series of robotic-assisted percutaneous coronary interventions.
