TE Connectivity (TE) revealed today its newly developed cost-optimized backshell for DMC-MD single module connectors. The new backshell offers a cost-saving addition to TE’s existing DEUTSCH DMC-MD single module series product line. DMC-MD connectors are among the most widely used connector styles in aircraft In-Flight Entertainment (IFE), cabin and avionics systems.
“By eliminating thread locking screws and molding our logo and part number on the connector, we’ve created a simplified, less expensive connector with no loss in performance,” said Christian Cavailles, product manager at TE Aerospace, Defense and Marine. “The new backshell complements our current DMC-MD product line by offering features not typically seen in this industry.”
TE’s new cost-optimized backshell offers several advantages: Its design is hermaphroditic (identical halves) and includes two stainless steel self-tapping screws, which eliminates the need for thread locking screws. The molded-in TE logo and part number reduce additional manufacturing steps and thus cost. The new design also enhances the gripping action on the back of the connector for ease in both mating and unmating of the connector and can be positioned on both the plug and extender receptacle. Lastly it is fully compatible with standard aerospace-qualified DMC-MD single series connectors.
