Drives Spread Seed Uniformly

Golf courses and farms need equipment that precisely seeds and fertilizes large expanses of ground. Otherwise, grass and crops grow unevenly or not at all. When equipment designers looked for an easy way to adjust application rates for seeding and fertilizing distribution, they found the Zero-Max adjustable speed drives as a reliable source.

Zero-Max Adjustable Speed Drive
Zero-Max Adjustable Speed Drive is mounted on a grass seed dispenser. Seeding rate is easily adjusted with a hand lever.

The drives are designed to provide accurate and repeatable speed settings. They are used as a prime mover connected to a motor, or as a secondary drive connected to a shaft in the machine’s drive line. When used as a prime mover, the drive acts as a variable speed device. When used as a secondary drive, it becomes a variable ratio device. The drive permits slow or fast, small or large speed changes.

The machine accepts input speeds from 0 to 2,000 rpm. Output speed changes using these adjustable speed drives can be made quickly and easily whether the machine is running or not. For example, output speed is adjustable from 0 to 400 rpm with an 1,800 rpm input speed. The drives provide speed control for inputs from ¼ to 1-1/2 hp applications with output torque ratings from 12 to 200-in.-lb.

Output speed for the drive is set with the control lever adjustment. An optional screw control or Micro Dial feature provides a clean and accurate reference for applications that require repeatability. This allows you to more accurately set and repeat various settings to meet performance levels for different applications. For example, you can make adjustments for more or less seed or more or less fertilizer. When the drive and Micro Dial are used in a seeder cart application, different application rates can be made more accurately for dispensing grass, corn, wheat, oats, and other seeds.
