Indie is an enclosed desktop 3D printer priced at less than $600. Developed by Mumbai, India, based 3D printing manufacturer Maher Soft, the use of an enclosure for desktop 3D printers in this price range is rare. But the enclosure helps address issues of cracking and warping that can happen when printing with ABS materials.
Indie suits a number of industries, including healthcare, industrial design, aviation, and engineering.
Indie was built on an open source platform using standard components. Key Indie Desktop printer features include an 8 in. x 8 in. x 8 in. heated bed along with the enclosed heated chamber and temperature sensor to remove excess heat that reduces cracking and warping of ABS print material. The hardware of the printer includes injection molded and metal parts and high quality bearings for long gantry life.
Easy extruder removal prevents damaging parts during cleaning and maintenance. “Emotion” lighting adds aesthetic appeal and allows the users to enjoy the print experience from a distance. High-end sensors and filters reduce voltage and current fluctuations.
The printer has been used to create a scale model of 115-m long piece of transport equipment for a transport services company in the petroleum and refinery industry.
