IHS Inc. has announced the release of a significant update of its IHS Knowledge Collections solution for technical knowledge discovery. The latest enhancements make it even easier and faster for engineers, researchers and other technical professionals to find answers to their toughest technical challenges.

IHS also announced the release of a Patent Intelligence Module upgrade option for Knowledge Collections, giving companies the ability to put powerful tools for technology, competitive and patent trend analysis into the hands of their engineers, researchers and product managers.

The IHS Knowledge Collections comprise a unique library of more than 100 million technical documents from dozens of authoritative sources, together with patented question-answer technology. Engineers and researchers with more than 50 IHS customers currently use the Knowledge Collections to discover answers to technical problems and make better informed decisions.

IHS developed the enhancements in the third-quarter release of the IHS Knowledge Collections in consultation with its customers. New features and enhanced capabilities now available in Knowledge Collections will help engineers, scientists, researchers and others:

  • Accelerate research – enhanced metadata search and filtering capabilities allow users to quickly drill down to applicable knowledge to solve their challenges.
  • Find relevant answers faster – seamless linking into content sources, with automatic answer highlighting, gets users instantly to needed knowledge in the context of their workflow.
  • Stay up to date on new developments in their field – saved queries and search alerts keep engineers and scientists apprised of the latest advances in their industries.
  • Collaborate more effectively – the ability to save and share search result and citations allows teams to work together around a common body of knowledge in the course of a project.

In addition, the new Patent Intelligence Module – available as an optional upgrade to the Knowledge Collections – offers a powerful graphical toolset that allows engineers, researchers, product managers and others to understand technology and competitive trends through analysis of more than 40 million patents and patent applications. The module is based on a proven solution already used at dozens of leading companies, allowing engineers to accelerate ideation and innovation.

“The enhancements in the Q3 release of the IHS Knowledge Collections put powerful tools into the hands of our customers’ engineers, researchers and scientists, so they can quickly solve problems and drive success in their projects,” said Raj Radhakrishnan, product manager for Knowledge Collections at IHS. “We have been pleased with the rapid adoption of Knowledge Collections to date, and we will continue to incorporate our customers’ feedback into development plans for the Knowledge Collections to ensure it delivers increasing value for our user community.”

Because the Knowledge Collections are a cloud-based solution, the Q3 enhancements, which started rolling out at the end of July, are automatically available to the more than 31,000 users at IHS Knowledge Collections customers as soon as they are released. The Patent Intelligence Module is available as an add-on upgrade option for all Knowledge Collections customers.

IHS will host a complimentary webcast on August 20, 2014, at 11:00 am EDT (4:00 pm BST / 5:00 pm CEST), titled “Supercharge Your Engineering ROI,” to discuss insights into how companies are changing the way their technical professionals access, use and manage information in order to win in the marketplace. To register for the webcast is open here.
