FACTS Engineering Finalist in Freescale FTF Design Challenge

By Design World Staff | April 1, 2008

Cumming, GA — AutomationDirect is pleased to announce that FACTS Engineering, an exclusive supplier to AutomationDirect, was recently selected as a top 10 finalist in Freescale Semiconductor’s inaugural Freescale Technology Forum (FTF) Green Design Challenge, where contestants develop the next generation of embedded systems based on Freescale’s energy-efficient technologies and easy-to-design-with development tools.

Freescale’s FTF Design Challenge invites embedded designers worldwide to “go green”, rewarding the most inventive design teams with cash prizes and high-profile recognition. The Challenge awarded the top 10 finalists a $1,000 award and a professional CodeWarrior™ development platform that supports a range of Freescale’s technologies. The finalists will compete for placement at the FTF Americas, in Orlando, June 16-19, 2008.

The Sun Light Efficiency Detector (SLED), submitted by FACTS Engineering, is a system used to monitor the performance of individual photovoltaic (PV) modules of installed Solar Arrays. The SLED will continuously verify operation of each PV module by comparing instantaneous readings to a database of historical information of that module. This data will help protect the user’s investment in PV modules by providing evidence that modules perform to the manufacturer’s specifications within the warranty period. When a deviation in performance is detected the system will be able to identify the specific module(s) that should be cleaned, checked or replaced. The maintenance personnel will be able to go directly to the failing module without having to test each installed panel.

FACTS Engineering, located in New Port Richey, Florida, is a 'Valued Technology Resource' in the AutomationDirect.com 'Federation of Companies' specializing in the design, manufacture, and support of high quality computer and industrial programmable logic controller products for the DirectLOGIC PLC line.
