The FCC has extended the deadline for reply comments on its proposed net neutrality regulation to allow the industry to weigh the legal implications of this week’s court ruling against the FCC.
CTIA, the United States Telecom Association and the Open Internet Coalition filed requests on April 7 requesting the FCC extend the April 8 deadline to “enable all interested parties to evaluate and consider the legal implications of” the D.C. Circuit Court’s ruling, which found that the FCC lacked regulatory authority to enforce net neutrality regulations.
The new April 26 deadline marks the second time the FCC has extended the deadline on the net neutrality issue. The agency originally required that comments on the notice be filed by Jan. 14 and reply comments by March 5.
The FCC has pledged that it will push forward with its net neutrality initiative despite the court ruling. In a statement, the commission said it was “firmly committed to promoting an open Internet… the Court in no way disagreed with the importance of preserving a free and open Internet; nor did it close the door to other methods for achieving this important end.”
