A forward-looking technical development, Festo’s (www.festo.com) control cabinet integrates a pneumatic manual operation level that enables operators to centrally configure all parameters to control the process valves of a fixed-bed filter.
Fixed-bed filters of closed or open construction are a vital element of water processing in purification plants. They eliminate non-biodegradable content, turbidity and de-acidify, soften or harden the water.
Instead of using individual valve on the drive, the pneumatic control cabinet utilizes valve terminal and eliminates the positioner by dividing its function into three elements – drive’s activation through a 5/3-way solenoid valve on the valve terminal, a 4..20 mA analog output box’s feedback of the process valve position and shifting of the regulator software to the PLC.
Each fixed-bed filter is assigned one control cabinet, which primarily consists of a PLC and a touchscreen for system operation. Meanwhile, the link to the coordination level is achieved through the Ethernet to the next-level PLC as well as to the visualization of the process. The next-level PLC coordinates the fixed-bed filter’s backwashing while the process valve is controlled by the PLC within the control cabinet.
With its manual operation level, the control cabinet offers a flexible and robust solution to the control valve as it allows the system to be operated even without electrical power. Featuring the CPX/MPA valve terminal as its main component core, the control cabinet also allows users to centrally configure the regulator parameters.
