Festo Corporation introduces the high-speed Cartesian H-gantry designed for dynamic assembly operations in the fields of electronics, photovoltaic and small parts handling as well as other applications requiring quick and flexible positioning.
This new type of 3D/planar surface gantry is 30 percent faster compared with any other conventional Cartesian handling unit. The gantry covers a square-shaped working area that is much larger than that of delta robots, which can only work in round or kidney-shaped areas.
This high-speed H-gantry has a simpler base, very low profile and low center of gravity. With its optimum acceleration and deceleration characteristics, an accuracy of 0.1mm can be achieved during gripping and suction.
The H-gantry can reach 5 mps speed and 50m/s² acceleration, thanks to an engineering trick. The drive shaft of this gantry has two-toothed belt axes EGC which are connected to the crossmember with a single rotating toothed belt. With its two degrees of freedom, no motor needs to be moved within the X-Y area. A quick and dynamic motion can be facilitated with its reduced loads, thus resulting to less water.
The linear rotary module of the gantry consists of a spindle sleeve which has an integrated energy though-feed for the front-end module. It also comprises the Z-axis where the gripper is attached. The liner rotary module can accelerate at 1.5 mps speed at a rate of 20 m/s². The module’s Bernoulli suction gripper is the ideal solution for solar modules handling as well as other fragile workpieces.
