Flexible IDC Ribbon Cables for Microelectronic Applications

Cicoil’s Flexible IDC Ribbon Cables have been designed for use on High-Precision Microelectronic Equipment Systems that require absolute reliability and zero failure. Unlike industry standard stiff ribbon cables that shed particulates and can only operate in moderate temperatures (-20°C to +80°C), the Cicoil version has been designed for tight routing, excessive temperatures (-65°C to +260°C) and Class 1 Clean Rooms.

Cicoil initially developed the IDC Ribbon Cable in 1956 for early mainframe computers, which allowed companies like IBM, Sperry and UNIVAC to replace bulky, stiff round cables with sleek, flexible ribbon cables. In addition, Cicoil’s ribbon cables helped America put a man on the moon, as the lightweight cables were integral to the first space walk in 1965, and the Lunar landing in 1969.

The Flexx-Sil™ jacketed 28 AWG Ribbon Cables are available with up to 64 conductors in .050” and 1 mm versions. Both cables meet the standard ribbon cable dimensions, and are completely compatible with any IDC connector.

Cicoil’s IDC Cables are resistant to UV light, flames, steam, de-ionized water, acids, alcohol, autoclave, ozone, mechanical stress and many chemicals. When a lower friction surface is desired, Cicoil offers its SlideRite™ coating option by request.

In addition, Cicoil’s IDC Ribbon Cables are so flexible, they can also be bent, folded over, slit and formed into custom shapes, while still retaining all performance characteristics. These very unique features are only offered through Cicoil’s proprietary cable manufacturing process.

Cicoil’s Halogen-Free Ribbon Cables are UL & CSA Recognized, CE Conforming, RoHS & REACH Compliant and are cured continuously, with no debris or material contamination in an automated, climate controlled environment. In addition, the non-particulating IDC cables exceed the outgassing requirements of ASTM E595 and are also excellent for use in vacuum environments.

The company’s Patented Flexx-SilTM Flat Cable Technology provides high flexibility, extremely
long life, and they can withstand temperature extremes from -65 degrees to +260 degrees Celsius. Cicoil’s flat cables are used in thousands of demanding applications; including aircraft fuel control cells, semiconductor automation, and the Space Shuttle. Cicoil designs and manufactures its Flexx-SilTM jacketed cables and cable assemblies in an automated facility in Valencia, California. Cicoil’s quality assurance system is certified to the ISO 9001 (AS9100) standard.
