Attendees to the Fluid Power Technology Conference, presented by Fluid Power World, will have ample opportunities to learn from industry experts and pneumatic and hydraulic manufacturers at the two-day event. Slated forMilwaukee School of Engineering’s Kern Center Tuesday and Wednesday, June 21 and 22, the event will feature nearly 10 sessions led by experts in their respective fields.

SMC-logo energy savings in pneumatic systemsEnergy saving in pneumatic systems is sponsored by SMC Pneumatics and will be presented Wednesday morning from 10:15 to 11 a.m. by Douglas Lauer, CFPPS, Product Specialist, SMC.

  • Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • Define energy conservation
  • Explain the benefits of energy conservation
  • Define areas where energy conservation can be applied
  • Realize energy saving opportunities at their facilities

Lauer will first explain why we should use compressed air, and help users understand the cost of electricity and compressed air. He will delve into the air consumption by various applications, and then discuss how users can save energy through lean thinking.

Additionally, he will teach users how to define, measure and monitor air flow and pressure. Finally, he will highlight target areas for savings, including:

  • Leakage
  • Actuators
  • Fittings & Tubing
  • Air Blow Applications
  • Excessive Pressure
  • Intermittent Demand Testing
  • Inappropriate Usage
  • Design Mistakes
  • Cylinder Consumption
  • Energy Savings Software

This course was developed for the benefit of plant managers, design engineers and maintenance personnel who have a concern or responsibility to control the costs and environmental impact of excessive energy use in their facility. Topics covered are applicable to OEMs and end-users of pneumatic equipment.
