Virtually all industry segments utilize diaphragm components somewhere in their systems and the aerospace industry is certainly no exception. Freudenberg-NOK Sealing Technologies (Freudenberg-NOK), with its wide range of aerospace sealing products, has a long track record of supplying diaphragms for many aerospace applications for both rotorcraft and fixed-wing aircraft.

Supplying industry-recognizable, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) as well as respected aftermarket suppliers, Freudenberg-NOK is a trusted partner for critical diaphragm applications that keep end-users’ aircraft flying. With solutions for an array of aircraft systems, such as engine controls, fuel systems, valves and regulators for cabin pressurization, and even emergency systems such as supplemental oxygen masks, Freudenberg-NOK has the expertise to provide a diaphragm solution that allows these systems to operate at peak performance for the long haul.

As a multi-national organization with a global presence, Freudenberg-NOK maintains diaphragm manufacturing capabilities at two locations – its lead center in Reichelsheim, Germany and competence center in Morristown, Indiana, USA. Diaphragm manufacturing capabilities range from simple, flat-cut homogeneous rubber components to molded shapes with complex convolutes to high performance, coated fabric and fabric-reinforced diaphragms to meet customers’ challenging applications.

“In addition to being a full service supplier, our commitment is to provide the highest possible value to our customers by providing complete design support capability, developing engineered materials to meet specific application requirements and maintaining world class quality,” said Tim Smith, Manager, Morristown Competence Center, Freudenberg-NOK.

As an innovative company in the area of material development, Freudenberg-NOK is keenly aware of the critical role that the proper materials play in overall sealing and functional performance. As such, the company manufactures diaphragms in a wide range of materials including silicone, fluorosilicone, extreme low-temperature silicone, hydrogenated nitrile and fluorocarbon polymers along with Nomex®, Nylon and polyester fabrics to provide the proper balance between chemical compatibility, high-temperature life, low-temperature flexibility and fatigue resistance.

“We are delighted to offer the diaphragm product line as a part of a well-rounded aerospace offering,” said Sean Morgan, global segment manager, Aerospace, Freudenberg-NOK. “Regardless of performance challenges, we have the experience and ability to design and manufacture a custom, robust solution to keep aircraft flying and their systems operating at peak performance.”
