FTI Training: Geometric dimensioning & tolerancing for fasteners

One of the most common errors appearing on fastener prints is either the incorrect or challenging use of geometric tolerances.

Many times, designers are not well-versed in how fasteners are manufactured and, therefore, apply geometric tolerances that meet their needs for fit, form, or function. But they might fail to consider how the fastener manufacturer or supplier can verify conformance.

To reduce uncertainty, the Fastener Training Institute (FTI) is offering a two-day, in-person program aimed at increasing attendees’ knowledge base. In Basic Geometric Dimensioning/Tolerancing for Fasteners, FTI will provide insight and hands-on experience, designed to ensure class participants get a better understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.

In addition to introducing basic topics such as datums, bonus tolerance, and the 14 different controlled geometric characteristics, participants will be given the opportunity to apply critical thinking to many real-world examples, including how to best gage or verify that parts meet the required tolerances.

Although this class covers these topics at a relatively basic level, it’s ideal for individuals that are familiar with working with fasteners.

  • Program: Basic Geometric Dimensioning/Tolerancing for Fasteners
  • Date: March 28th and 29th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET
  • Location: Independence, OH

Topics covered:

• Terminology and symbols
• Datums
• Feature control frame
• Understanding the geometric tolerance and tolerance zones
• Bonus tolerance
• The 14 geometric tolerancing characteristics
• Gaging and verification

Who should attend?
• Engineers
• Quality Professionals
• Quoting
• Technical Sales Professionals
• Anyone interested in learning more about fasteners
