21st Century Erector Set man
In 2000, a company called Meccano bought the Erector brand name from the company that once made Erector Sets. Meccano’s vision for the 21st century Erector set includes this robot kit called the G15 KS. Standing about four feet high, it walks, talks and is programmable. The G15 KS has an Arduino-based computing engine and a voice recognition system. There are 550 components in the kit. Users can program the robot either by physically moving its appendages and having the robot mimic the sequence of movements, via control through a companion iOS or Android app, or through a motion-capture interface employing a camera from a smartphone used to mirror someone’s movements. The Meccanoid robot kit should be available this fall with an expected price tag of $399.
