In-toilet idagnostics
A smart aleck might say that the engineers at Urinos in Utah have their minds in the toilet all day. But in this case, that might be a compliment. Urinos has devised a sensor that is designed to be built into the common toilet. You can see a pinpoint of light from the sensor here, pointed out by Urinos director of research Dr. Aden Andrus. The sensor is actually a near-infrared spectrometer that reads light transmitted through urine going down the toilet. The wavelength data it records can give physicians real-time data about conditions such as kidney disease, diabetes, kidney stones, or drug compliance. It can also help support clinical drug trials.
