Pinball prox sensors
Most pinball machines use simple electromechanical microswitches to sense when a ball rolls over a spot on the game board that scores points. Sensor maker Turck decided to make an interesting display of its sensor technology by replacing 19 microswitches in this pinball machine with its proximity sensors. Conceived by Turck’s Scott Lipa, the pinball machine also uses pressure sensors on its game bumpers and an RFID sensor for discerning when someone feeds the machine a quarter. A serial card runs the game display. You can see the 16 digital I/O slices and two analog slices (for tilt sensing) on the side of the machine.
