CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA
— GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms announces that it had received an order for a customized version of the company's CL11 single board computer (blade) from Airbus (Toulouse, France). The CL11 will be deployed as part of the Cabin Electronics system onboard Airbus aircraft. The initial order is valued in excess of $500,000 but ongoing orders are expected to total around $15 million over the five-year life of the program.

Key Airbus requirements were that the chosen blade be high performance, small and light weight, rugged, and therefore capable of operation in the harsh environment and extended temperature range of an aircraft, and it should include the I/O (input/output) capabilities required in an aviation application. The latter capability was developed by GE Fanuc specifically for Airbus. Beyond this, GE Fanuc was able to demonstrate experience in avionics applications, and an in-depth understanding of Airbus' requirement; flexibility in adapting the CL11 to Airbus' specific requirement; and the size and financial stability to guarantee long term support.

The CL11 is a 3U CompactPCI single board computer that features an Intel® Core™ Duo or Core2 Duo processor. It incorporates sophisticated power management technology, eliminating the need for an onboard fan. The board supports up to four PCI Express™ interfaces, six USB 2.0 ports, two serial ATA ports, optional CompactFlash, VGA/SDVO, and one COM port at the backplane. The CL11 can be ordered as either a system or non-system slot single board computer. It is very well suited to low-power embedded computer applications and offers an extended temperature option of —40° C to +75° C for applications in extreme environments.
