Gold Industrial Panel PCs from Maple Systems

By Patrick Curran | January 19, 2010

Everett, WA – Maple Systems is introducing a new line of Gold Industrial Panel PCs that offer you the freedom, efficiency, power, and connectivity to create your automation process based upon your primary design objectives — rather than being forced to sidestep around the limitations and design roadblocks imposed by conventional HMIs/Panel PCs. These units offer much greater latitude in the creation and facilitation of the automation and control process.

Maple has aptly named their new Gold line of Industrial Computers after the lightning fast Intel processor that lies at their core — the Core 2 Duo. This innovative 64-bit Core 2 Duo processor will deliver enough computing speed, power, and flexibility to handle a vast array of industrial-grade projects. And the power of the processor is augmented by the flexibility of the Operating System.

Loaded with the Microsoft Windows XP Professional, these new models offer endless configuration options for applications at all levels of complexity —from simple single panel operator interface applications to complex networked SCADA systems. And these units have the superb connectivity to pull it off —sporting two Ethernet Ports, five Serial Ports, and four Host USB Ports (six Host USB Ports on the 19 inch model). And with a choice of a 15″, 17″ or 19″ models, you can panel mount the size unit that accommodates your space considerations best.

These units offer true flexibility and will perform at any level or location of your automation process. The Core 2 Duo Series can handle it all: mega-computing tasks, industrial grade projects, extreme environmental conditions, intensive certification requirements, multiple connectivity issues, durability requirements, the need for open platform versatility, the want of a simple touchscreen interface (or the flexibility to choose a keyboard if you wish), or the requirement of media capabilities like web, graphics, video, and sound.

In fact the graphic capabilities of this innovative line of industrial computers set a new standard with a bright high-contrast SXGA TFT Display that sports no less than 16 million colors (with a resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels). For storage, these units are fortified with an 80 GB “anti-shock” Hard Drive (Upgradable to 160 GB). Also, they include 1 GB of DDR2 DRAM, and this memory is upgradable to 3 GB. These hardware configurations far surpass any conventional HMI, and that gives you the width and breath to design your project based on your parameters.

And if your parameters include harsh environments, then again these units meet the task. They are operational in temperatures ranging from 0 to 50 degrees Celsius and in humidity ranging from 5 to 95 percent. The enclosure is tough and rugged to protect interior components. In fact, all models have a thick 10mm anodized aluminum bezel and electro-galvanized steel chassis. The motherboard is designed specifically for the industrial environment, and the hard drives are anti-shock. They have a NEMA4/12 (IP65) Rating, they are RoHS Compliant, and they are CE and FCC certified.

As an enhancement to the hardware itself, Maple Systems also offers, as an option, the WebStudio HMI/SCADA software. This easy-to-understand web-based interface provides a media-rich operating environment that communicates system conditions clearly to operators, while allowing supervisors and engineers to view and append data remotely. But what software you utilize is up to you because the Windows XP environment puts you in the driver’s seat.
