As predicted over the last few days, Google announced its own IoT system at the I/O press conference today. The system, called Brillo, is an Android-based network that uses a proprietary language called Google Weave. Ideally, this will become a standard for how IoT devices communicate. Google also pointed out that Brillo will be compatible with a wide variety of chips and chip makers.
Brillo wasn’t alone: I/O also brought us news of Google Play improvements, Android Pay, Google Cardboard 2.0, a lot of new apps for Android Wear, unlimited photo and video storage and a GoPro camera (or rather, a ring of them) designed for virtual reality.
